#Uffbasse! For consideration and nature conservation

Hiking, strolling, wandering, cycling, mountain biking, climbing, trekking, picnicking, forest bathing, chilling, and dining. Vacation and leisure in the fresh air should be fun and, above all, relaxing. This works best if we are careful and mindful with ourselves, other people, and nature. SO: PAY ATTENTION AND THINK ALONG! Be considerate of everyone on the way and especially of nature so that we can continue to enjoy it in the distant future.

At www.pfalz.de/uffbasse we have listed some behavior tips for considerate and careful coexistence.

    Safety information

Despite the "unmissable" marking of the premium hiking trails, we recommend always having an appropriate hiking map for safety reasons, so that, for example, in the event of a thunderstorm or emergency, you can quickly find a safe area.

Especially in autumn, it is also important to note that fallen leaves on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After storms, trees may still fall or branches may come down afterwards. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths may be muddy and slippery. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. Not all rocks or precipices are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is partly required. If you think you cannot walk certain sections of the paths, you should avoid them.

In snow and ice, caution is basically required even on premium hiking trails!

Educational hiking excursion for the whole family

Above Wilgartswiesen rests the Falkenburg castle ruins, a testament to medieval castle architecture. As an attraction of the premium hiking trail "Wilgartswieser Biosphären-Pfad," the former imperial fortress is gaining renewed fame. But the sometimes educational hike also offers unforgettable impressions.

Right at the start, there is an ascent to the castle ruins via a forest path. It is shady and mystical at the foot of the castle walls. A narrow staircase leads up to the castle rock of the wildly overgrown upper castle, from where a magnificent view over the Wasgau unfolds. It is worthwhile to explore the ruin. In the shade under an oak tree, amidst untouched nature now taken over by the impressive castle remains, you will also find a nice picnic spot.

Refreshed, the route leads leisurely downhill from Falkenburg towards "Wasgaublick." Soon the sounds of civilization fall silent, leaving only birdsong. Somewhere you hear water flowing and then complete tranquility. From the shady deciduous forest, the path leads into an idyllic meadow valley, the Falkenburg-Tiergarten nature reserve. Information boards provide interesting facts about the local fauna and flora. What sounds like freezing rain falling on autumn leaves at the path's edge is revealed upon closer inspection to be millions of red wood ants busily working around a huge anthill. An informative board here also explains this insect species, which is rare in Germany.

The next rest is available at the Wasgaublick viewpoint, reached after an approximately 45-minute, easy uphill hike. From the Kurt Reinhard Path, the way then leads to an impressive rock face that majestically rises in bright red tones from the green forest: the Deichenwand. From a generous wooden viewing platform, you enjoy a sublime view over the surrounding Palatinate mountains. This is the ideal place to relax, reflect, and recharge energy. Along the steep wall, a wire-rope-secured path leads down to the foot of the rock massif. Here you should definitely stop again and let your gaze glide up the mighty rock face. Depending on the sun's position, you can admire a beautiful play of colors in red, brown, and orange.

Now you continue down the mountain into the romantically situated Rödertal. The air humidity noticeably increases: you approach the spring on the slope. When crossing the spring, you feel the moisture in the ground and air, which offers a suitable habitat for different fern species. It becomes educational in the lovingly designed "school forest." Not only children learn a lot about native plants and animals as well as the cycle of nature through many informative flip boards. And when you arrive at the insect hotel and remain quiet, you can even observe one or another shy forest animal feeding.
