The premium hiking route Hahnfels-Tour begins at Belmontplatz in Erfweiler. After the ascent to Hahnberg with the Hahnfelsen, a dreamlike view over the Wasgau unfolds. This is the perfect place for a cozy picnic. The bizarre Schafsteinfelsen, past which the hiking path leads, is very popular with climbers. At the top of the Panorama Kahlenberg, there is an impressive view of the Alt-Dahn castle complex, another stop on this route.

The Dreierburg is the largest castle complex in the Palatinate and is worth exploring. After continuing towards Erfweiler and through Langenthal, it becomes romantic at the landscape pond. Enjoying nature is the motto. Refreshing spring water and a waterfall rejuvenate tired hikers for the last stage back to the starting point.

UFFBASSE! - Campaign for respectful coexistence in nature

Always behave thoughtfully, friendly, and considerately towards everyone you meet on the way.

Respect nature, do not destroy plants, and always stay on the paths.

Remember a garbage bag for the way and take your trash home with you.

Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.

Respect all path closures for your own safety, even on weekends.

Park only in designated parking spaces. Leave room for emergency routes and agricultural machinery.

Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic.

    Safety information

Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can hide unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rains, trees may still fall or branches drop. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or rails. Surefootedness is required in places. You should expect path impairments of this kind when hiking. If you believe some sections are impassable, you should bypass them. Despite the "unmissable" marking of the premium hiking routes, for safety reasons, we recommend always carrying a suitable hiking map so that you can quickly reach a safe area in case of a thunderstorm or emergency.

    NOTE:

We strive to announce all closures due to forestry work or hunting on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed, and we may not have been informed. If you encounter closures or detours on site, please observe these instructions for your own safety.

    Roadbook

The starting point of the premium hiking route "Hahnfels-Tour" is Belmontplatz (village square) in the middle of Erfweiler. From here, the path leads past the church via a staircase to a trail up to Hahnberg with the Hahnfelsen. On the Hahnfelsen, there is a viewpoint offering a magnificent view of Erfweiler and over the Wasgau. Ideal for lingering and enjoying, preferably in the form of a picnic. The path then continues to the Glastalblick and down into the Bärenbrunnertal. Past the hidden Heegerturm, it proceeds to the Breitenbach spring with a resting place with fresh spring water, which is also inviting to linger. From the spring, it goes up to the Schafsteinfelsen, a bizarre and massive sandstone rock formation showing clear traces of nature. It is also a popular destination for climbers. Past the rocks, our path leads up to the Panorama Kahlenberg with a great view of the Alt-Dahn castle complex.

It continues over the ridge towards Schindhard, the neighboring community, to the Wasgau viewpoint. Here you find a viewpoint inviting you to rest, offering views over Schindhard, Dahn-Reichenbach, and up to the Drachfels castle ruins near Busenberg. After a short rest, it goes down a path to the Schindhard sports field. From here, the hiking trail passes the Fischwoog mill and an old brick kiln, then up along K 39 to the "Alt-Dahn" castle complex. The Dreierburg is the largest castle complex in the Palatinate, with a small but fine museum. A visit to the castle is definitely worthwhile. Below the castle ruins, the small Burgschenke invites you to rest in the shade of the old trees.

The path continues over the Löfelsfelsen, again with a view of Erfweiler, back toward the Wasgau community. The narrow path gently descends to the hidden cave at Zimmerberg. Below the Zimmerfels, you walk down to the village view and to the Hebelfelsen. From here, it is possible to shorten the tour via Friedhofstraße back to the starting point (places to eat: Jägerhof in the town center and Dorfidyll, Winterbergstraße in Erfweiler).

Those who decide against the shortcut continue on the route at the edge of Erfweiler through the adjacent forest toward the Kneipp facility and from there to the charcoal burner’s site with a shelter. The tour now runs on a level path through Langenthal toward the landscape pond. At the landscape pond, you can relax on several benches and simply enjoy nature. It then continues via the Liebespfad to the Eibach spring. The spring embedded in the rock offers fresh spring water and a chance to rest. From the spring, the path first goes along a trail to the Erfweiler waterfall. Here is pure nature as well. Via the Dickkopf path, the last stage returns to the village, which is reached again at the Michael chapel. From here, you take the Bürgersteig past Hotel "Kleine Blume" (place to eat with a nice terrace) back to the starting point of the route.
