Breathtaking distant views, winding paths, and bizarre rock formations are characteristic of the premium hiking trails. Particularly appealing is the premium hiking trail "Dahner Felsenpfad," which, with its 15 spectacular stations, is among the most beautiful routes.

Right at the beginning of the eventful premium hiking trail, it becomes clear why the Felsenpfad captivates hikers from everywhere: light-flooded forest, soft ground, and Mediterranean atmosphere exude a feel-good character. On the viewing platform of Pfaffenfelsen, you get a first taste of the upcoming views and vistas.

The 12-kilometer-long Dahner Felsenpfad runs largely on newly created, narrow routes and opens up attractive rock formations. Not only the varied route but also the indescribable diversity of the bizarre rock formations is impressive. Those who set out should be reasonably surefooted and have a certain level of fitness. The Dahner Felsenpfad is a premium hiking trail and is well marked along the entire route with the sign "Black Rock on an orange background."

UFFBASSE! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature

Always behave proactively, friendly, and considerate toward all those you meet along the way.

Respect nature, do not destroy plants, and always stay on the paths.

Remember to bring a trash bag for the trail and take your rubbish home with you.

Please keep your dog on a leash at all times. Other visitors and animals will thank you.

Observe all trail closures for your own safety, even on weekends.

Only park in designated parking areas. Leave space for emergency routes and agricultural machinery.

Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic.

    Safety information

Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can hide unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or rainstorms, trees may still fall or branches may drop afterwards. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths may have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or precipices are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is sometimes required. You should expect such trail impairments when hiking. If you find certain trail sections impassable, you should avoid them. Despite the "unfailing" markings of the premium hiking trails, we recommend always carrying an appropriate hiking map for safety reasons, so you can quickly find a safe area in case of thunderstorm or emergency.

    NOTE:

We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work and hunting groups on this platform. Nevertheless, situations can arise where trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you encounter closures or detours on-site, please observe the instructions for your own safety.

    Roadbook

Right at the beginning of the eventful route, it becomes clear why the Felsenpfad captivates hikers from everywhere: light-flooded forest, soft ground, and a Mediterranean atmosphere exude a feel-good character. On the viewing platform of Pfaffenfelsen, you get a first taste of the upcoming views and vistas.

At the foot of the Schillerfelsen mountain massif, a memorial plaque commemorates the 100th anniversary of the poet's death. The steep ascent is rewarded at the top of the rock with a wonderful view of the Wasgau town of Dahn. The adventure continues over the Schwalbenfelsen towards the Felsen-Arena. The path leads through a narrow rock passage and over a staircase to the viewing platform of Schwalbenfelsen. Here is a cozy spot for a first extended rest. Depending on the sun's position, fascinating sunlight effects can be observed along the Felsen-Arena. Hikers repeatedly pass by, scramble around the rocks, touch them admiringly, and photograph the different rock layers.

Southern vegetation and a great view over the surrounding mountains are offered by the Elwetritschefels, which is reached via a soft forest path. If your stomach is already growling, you can soon refresh yourself in the hut of the Palatinate Forest Association for the next eight kilometers. Worth seeing is also the short info path "Nature Reserve Moosbachtal," which explains the local fauna and flora in front of the hut.

Following the trail marking "Black Rock on orange background," you find yourself in an idyllic meadow area before the ascent to the next highlights begins. From now on, the rock attractions follow one another, and one viewpoint follows the next - each with its own unique atmosphere. A dark, mystical aura prevails over Mooskopf and Roßkegelfelsen, which you reach after the Schlangenfelsen. A narrow path winds around them and then up to the rock ridge. The silence up there emphasizes the mysterious atmosphere emanating from this rock group.

After a small cooling off at the Rothsteigbrunnen, you pass through a rock crevice to Ungeheuerfelsen and ascend in a demanding climb to the mighty Büttelfelsen. A steel ladder leads to a lofty viewing platform. From there, you enjoy an unobstructed view to the Lämmerfelsen, which as the next station with its impressive panorama is one of the highlights of the Dahner Felsenpfad.

Another short walk through the romantic Wieslautertal, and the last worthwhile ascent awaits, up to the Wachtfelsen. Steel stairs lead up to a stone plateau that in an exposed location reveals a final panoramic view of the Dahner Felsenland. The rock pair Bride & Groom can also be seen, which you can admire in full size down at the parking lot. All the bizarre rock formations and the varied route make the Dahner Felsenpfad a sensory delight. Rightly, this circular hiking trail carries the designation "Premium route."
